Legislative Alert: HB 2530

CONTACT THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE IMMEDIATELY AND ASK THEM TO VOTE "YES" ON HB HB 2530

Please contact members of the Kansas Senate Judiciary Committee immediately and ask them to vote "yes" on HB 2530.

HB 2530 exempts physicians and other health care workers from claims under the Kansas Consumer Protection Act, as reported in the March 12 KVMA Legislative Bulletin.

The bill passed the Kansas House of Representatives late last week by a vote of 114-9 and was heard on Wednesday morning, March 21 in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The KVMA staff and legal counsel worked hard to insure that veterinarians were included in the provisions of HB 2530 and feel that was accomplished in the House Judiciary Committee.

Again, contact the Senate Judiciary Committee and ask them to vote "yes" on HB 2530.

Bill Banning Vaccines with Any Level of Mercury to Be Heard

SB 1 provides that on or after July, 2008, no vaccine in the state shall contain any level of mercury and that using them knowingly after that point would be a class C misdemeanor.

The measure will be heard in the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee on Thursday, March 22.

The bill was heard before the same legislative body last year and received no action. Considering that and the fact that Saturday is the deadline for second house consideration, hopefully the bill does not have strong legs and the prospects for action are not good.

The KVMA staff, however, will follow Wednesday's developments with great interest and will keep you posted in future legislative bulletins. Back to top
